Today it’s time to discover some of the great ancient icons of South America, as you travel from Lima to the Sacred Valley, via Cusco. You’ll be transported to the age of the Inca on Day 3. The mythical Sacred Valley of Peru is not only beautiful to travel across, with its dramatic hills and gorges, but was also the cradle of Inca civilization over 500 years ago. An Atelier concierge will take you to Lima airport for a morning flight to Cusco, followed by a scenic drive through this scenic landscape to your boutique Sacred Valley hotel, with the rest of the day at leisure.
On Day 4 you’ll delve deeper into the Sacred Valley as you discover the superbly preserved archaeological sites of Chincero, Moray, and Maras. Picture-perfect Chincero is a joy to behold with its mix of Inca and colonial architecture, and a traditional culture that exists to this day. You’ll then visit Moray, one of the most impressive Inca agriculture sites in the Sacred Valley. Moray is vast and beautiful, with these stepped terraces and water channels once used for experimental farming techniques over 500 years ago. Lunch comes courtesy of a gourmet picnic surrounded by Sacred Valley views, the perfect setting as you dine. Later, explore the hypnotic salt pools of Maras for a real trip back in time. These hillside pools have been used to extract salt in the same way since ancient times. This evening can be spent at leisure around the grounds of your boutique Sacred Valley hotel.
Often voted the World’s Top Travel Destination, your next stop is Machu Picchu, a place that has captured the imagination of countless visitors over the years. Once here, it’s easy to see why.
