Travelling west through the country’s Central Valley, the landscape quickly changes into lush countryside as you pass some of the world’s best vineyards and wine labels. The first full day of this Chile and Antarctica tour eases you in with excursions that can be as active or laidback as you like. You’ll be taken to Pucón Airport in time for your flight south, before being collected at Punta Arenas and driven to your Patagonia hotel for check-in, meet your fellow Antarctica explorers, and an evening at leisure.
The Patagonian wilderness around Punta Arenas is a perfect segway for the next stage of this remarkable journey, Antarctica. Depart your hotel in time for a flight to King George Island in the Southern Ocean, just 120km from the coast of Antarctica itself. You’ll travel across the island to a jetty and Zodiac boat for a short crossing towards your luxury Antarctic cruise vessel, the Magellan Explorer. From your lodge, gear up for mountain biking tours, hiking and climbing routes, horse riding or kayaking on a Torres del Paine lake, bliss. For a gentler start to your time here, perhaps a spot of fly fishing or wildlife watching, or unwinding around the secluded grounds of your lodge.
