The best of Bolivia starts with the best of La Paz, and that’s exactly what you’ll see on the first full day of your tour. In the company of an expert local guide, you will visit impressive colonial buildings that house exhibitions and interesting artifacts like the Juan de Vargas Museum, Murillo House, and the Museum of Gold. Later, take a trip to the evocative Witches Market for all kinds of healing potions before seeing the city from above at the Killi Killi Lookout, or on a cable car ride. To round things off – and for a taste of the landscapes to come, take a short drive to the Moon Valley for impossibly ornate rock formations that were once a formidable mountain. Meals included: breakfast
Bolivia has two capital cities – La Paz (seat of government) and Sucre (legal capital), with the second of these your destination on day 3. Transfer to Sucre on a domestic flight and begin a deep dive into the city’s cultural melting pot with guided tours of the ornate Recoleta Convent, ASUR Indigenous Art Museum, 25 de Mayo Square, and the significant Casa de la Libertad (Freedom House). This afternoon, visit the bewildering site of Cal Orcko and see the largest collection of dinosaur footprints anywhere in the world. Meals included: breakfast
The cultural exploration of Bolivia continues in Potosi today, where life in colonial times is even easier to imagine. The city itself is one of terracotta-tiled buildings, old bell towers, and the ever-present orange hue of the surrounding mountainscape. Having arrived from Sucre, particular highlights of your overnight in Potosi include the Plaza 10 de Noviembre, Church of San Lorenzo, Convent of Santa Teresa, and the Spanish colonial Royal Mint – now a place to learn traditional Bolivian art and history. Meal included: breakfast
From captivating culture to one of the most extraordinary landscapes in South America, if not the world. Day 5 of your Best of Bolivia Tour takes you to Uyuni, famous for its salt flats but home to so much more besides. The drive from Potosi to Uyuni is no ordinary one. The landscapes and natural wonders you visit along the way are simply breathtaking. Known as the Route of Lagoons, you’ll pass Eduardo Avaroa National Park, the flamingos and bright red waters of Lake Colorada, beautiful Laguna Verde, abstract rock formations in “Dali's Desert", and the phenomenon of Sol de Mañana geysers, to name just a few. Meals included: breakfast
Among the most iconic travel experiences in South America – and certainly the most photo-worthy – today your Best of Bolivia tour takes you to the ethereal Uyuni Salt Flats. This 10,0000 sqm expanse of perfectly flat, mirror-like salt plains – itself the remnants of a dried-up prehistoric lake – must be seen to be believed. The skewed sense of perspective the Uyuni Salt Flats are known is a lot of fun, though stunningly beautiful too. And there’s more. Having been wowed by the plains, further stops include the giant cacti of Incahuasi Island in the middle of the desert, the ancient ruins (and mummies) of Pukara de Ayke, Thunupa Volcano, and even a luxury hotel made only from salt. It’s a day like no other. Meals included: breakfast
Having spent the night under the starry skies of Uyuni, you may have chance to visit the so-called Train Cemetery, and one last natural spectacle at Ojos de Agua before your journey back to La Paz. Upon arrival in La Paz, enjoy the rest of the day at leisure. Meals included: breakfast
As your trip comes to a close, an Atelier concierge will take you to La Paz Airport in time for your onward flight home, full of priceless memories of Bolivia. Meals included: breakfast
